The Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM) Pathfinder scheme released three new competitions, with early, mid and late-stage projects eligible for funding.
CAM Pathfinder is designed to help the UK achieve a first-mover advantage in Europe in the connected and automated mobility space.
The three competitions are:
- Feasibility Studies – Supporting early-stage research
- Enable – Funding projects that result in a live trial with relevant stakeholders
- Demonstrate – Helping companies validate and showcase more advanced technologies
Below are the key things you need to know about each competition, including who’s eligible and how much funding they offer.
CAM Pathfinder: Feasibility Studies
Who is eligible?
You must be looking to deliver a feasibility study that will produce a business case for a CAM service in the UK.
To lead a project, you must be a:
- Company of any size
- Local authority
- Transport authority
If you’re working alone, you must be a company. Project teams can include:
- Academic institutions
- Businesses of any size
- Charities
- Not-for-profits
- Public sector organisations
- Research and technology organisations (RTOs)
How much funding is available?
Between £100,000 and £250,000. As a business, you will have to provide match funding. How much depends on your size:
- Micro and Small businesses: Projects are 70% funded
- Medium businesses: 60%
- Large businesses: 50%

CAM Pathfinder: Enable
Who is eligible?
CAM Pathfinder: Enable is funding trials led by service operators and other entities that benefit from the new technologies being developed. The live trial which must involve real stakeholders to demonstrate your technology’s potential.
This is a collaborative competition, meaning your project must be delivered with at least one other party.
To lead a project, you must any of:
- A UK-registered company of any size
- A local authority
- A transport authority
You can participate in an Enable project if you are a business of any size, charity, not-for-profit, academic institution, public sector organisation or research and technology organisation (RTO).
How much funding is available?
Between £2 million and £4 million.
As a company, how much your grant will cover depends on what type of project you’re looking to undertake and how large you are.

This competition will fund research and development for technologies that are close to market.
To lead a project, you must be a company of any size. Project teams can include:

- Charities
- Not-for-profits
- Public sector organisations
- Research and technology organisations (RTOs)
How much funding is available?
Between £500,000 and £2 million. As a company, how much your grant will cover depends on what type of project you’re looking to undertake and how large you are.
