Looking Forward to Lambeth Council’s Net Zero Demo Day

On 10 November, Lambeth Council will host another of its highly-successful Net Zero Demo Days.

Net Zero Demo Days are a fantastic opportunity for businesses in the Lambeth area to demonstrate their net-zero-focused technologies to an engaged audience of political figures, potential investors and other attendees that can support them on their journey.

A total of ten companies will present, each one showcasing solutions that range from renewable energy generation to low-emission vehicles.

The presenters participated in the Lambeth Net-Zero Accelerator, an intensive support programme hosted by Lambeth Council, OneTech, and Startup Discovery School

Part of GrantTree’s partnership network, Startup Discovery School is a wonderful and impactful organisation determined to address the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals through innovation.

The Net Zero Demo Day will also feature a keynote speech from Dr Olivia Ahn, CEO and Co-Founder of the personal hygiene brand Planera. Dr Ahn will be sharing her experience building a startup and explaining how she raised nearly $10 million in seed investment.

If you are attending Net Zero Day and are interested in discussing a partnership or your company’s funding options, drop me a message on LinkedIn!

Why I’m Excited to Attend Net Zero Day

As we all know, the climate emergency is an immediate, global and existential threat.

Building a more sustainable future will require organisations, governments and individuals to work together to reduce waste, slash emissions and ultimately achieve net zero.

Lambeth Council’s Net Zero Demo Days champion this spirit of cooperation between sectors. The work they, OneTech and Startup Discovery School have done to support entrepreneurs contributing new ideas to this vital space should be widely applauded and emulated in other parts of the country.

While the news about rising global temperatures and the increasing frequency of natural disasters rightly creates a great deal of anxiety, stories of up-and-coming innovators – like those presenting at Net Zero Demo Day – provide hope that we can build a more sustainable, equitable future.

Talking Funding

One of the biggest impediments companies face when looking to build their solutions and take them to market is funding. Or, rather, a lack thereof.

Equity investment – a major source of capital for high-growth businesses – can be hard to obtain, particularly for younger startups operating in an emerging field.

The good news is that the UK’s startup funding ecosystem has never been more varied. From a growing list of debt financing instruments to increasingly generous government schemes, founders have a wide range of financial avenues to explore as they look to grow their businesses.

At Net Zero Demo Day, I look forward to talking to companies – those presenting and those attending as guests – about the different forms of funding open to them. And to explaining the various ways GrantTree’s financial and technical experts can help them to achieve their company goals.

I hope to see you there. If you’d like to organise a meeting, please get in touch!
